Elderly man dies hit by a train in Florence, suicide is not ruled out

breaking latest news – A 79-year-old man died from the consequences of a railway collision which occurred this afternoon at the Santa Maria Novella station in Florence. The man, hit by a regional convoy, arrived at the hospital with both legs amputated, then his condition worsened further and he died in the evening.

Polfer is reconstructing the dynamics of the investment, which occurred at 6.15 pm between tracks 16 and 17 of the Florentine hub. It cannot be ruled out that it was a suicide.

The impact on railway traffic

The movement of trains, which this evening suffered slowdowns and diversions at the Florence hub following the investment, has resumed, the State Railways announced. Traffic – it is explained – was blocked to allow rescue operations and subsequent investigations by the authorities. At 7pm traffic resumed on the first 10 tracks. While the surveys on the remaining tracks also ended at 7.45pm.

Some high-speed trains were diverted between Florence and Bologna, on the conventional line via Prato. While some regional trains have suffered route limitations. Following the events – it is always explained – there will be complete regularity of services in the evening.
