breaking latest news – Outgoing President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has fallen below 50%, to 49.9%, when the count has now reached 91% of the ballots. Data that will make a second round necessary on May 28th.
As the count went on, the margin of advantage of the incumbent president fell gradually and steadily until it reached below 50%, while the challenger and opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu, instead, is at 45.28%.
Erdogan had started from a 56% advantage, at the beginning of the count an enormous and ephemeral advantage, due to the fact that the first data to arrive were those of small villages in Anatolia. A margin that gradually narrowed with the arrival of data from large centres.
At the moment, the very last polling stations whose data is awaited are those of the big cities.
Around 5% is the percentage of votes collected by the outsider in the presidential race Sinan Ogan.
