“The changes to the Highway Code approved by the Chamber of Deputies go in the right direction also because they introduce the concept that safety regulations concern all users and not just some categories”. Thus Paolo Uggè, president of the Federation of Italian Road Transporters (FAI).
“The rules on scooters and bicycles, and the checks with speed cameras are positive, as are those that aim to prevent fines from being used as ATM withdrawals by some local administrations – continues Uggè – Of course there are corrections to be introduced, and they concern drivers of heavy vehicles. We essentially ask that the short suspension of the license be calculated on the sum of the scores of the qualifications (license and CQC), in order to limit the damage for the category of hauliers. A principle contained in the agenda presented by the Honorable Gaetana Russo of Fratelli d’Italia and approved last night by the Chamber.
“The amendment suggested by the Fai does not appear to be included in the text of the approved Bill – specifies Uggè – However, thanks to the Honorable Russo it has been transformed into an Agenda which reiterates the issue raised by the Fai and commits the Government to maintaining the less burden on the road haulage sector in terms of scores”.
Hence the appeal to the Minister of Transport Salvini: “We know the impact of the agendas, however we believe that in the legislative decree that will be issued by the Ministry of Transport the topic must be included and clear”, states Uggè.
“The road haulage activity, which from the data does not appear to be the main cause of accidents that occur on the roads, must be able to be carried out in full compliance with the rules, but without measures that would only end up complicating a service necessary for the country”, he concludes the president of Fai-Conftrasporto.
