Fastweb for greenery, a thousand new plants in Turin

Also for 2024, Fastweb renews its commitment to contribute to the environmental regeneration of the Piedmont Park in Turin through a new forestation intervention which saw the planting of 1,000 plants in an area between Corso Unione Sviluppo, the Sangone river and the Road to Mirafiori Castle.

Speakers included Dr. Gianmichele Cirulli, Head of the Alberate Operational Unit of the Green and Parks Division of Turin, Claudia Attanasio, Manager of Environmental at Fastweb, Rubina Pinto, Deputy Director of Legambiente Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta, and Alessandro Martella, General Director of AzzeroCO2.

The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the municipal administration, is part of Mosaico Verde, the national campaign for the forestation of green areas, the recovery of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and environmental regeneration, promoted by AzzeroCO2 and Legambiente, which Fastweb joined in 2021, committing to planting 15,000 plants between Milan, Rome, Bari, Catania, Turin and Pomigliano D’Arco (Na), breaking latest news, Cagliari and Mola di Bari (Ba).

The forestation intervention in Parco Piemonte was finalized with the voluntary contribution of a delegation of Fastweb employees who participated in planting the last trees.

The new trees and shrubs join the 1000 specimens already planted in the park by Fastweb in 2022, consolidating the company’s objective of actively contributing to the renaturalization of this fundamental green lung of the city. The selection of tree and shrub species, which includes maple, cherry, dogwood, priest’s cap, dog rose, has been carefully studied to respect the climatic and naturalistic conditions of the area, thus guaranteeing the development of an ecosystem resilient and harmonious. Over time, the new plants will create a wooded area that will improve air quality, contributing to the mitigation of air pollution caused by vehicular traffic on Corso UnioneSoviet.

As the trees grow, areas of shade will emerge which, in addition to offering relief during the hot summer months, will mitigate the heat island effect. This will bring a fresher and more welcoming environment, which will invite residents to fully enjoy the regenerated green space, to the benefit of socializing. Furthermore, the introduction of these new plants will not only bring benefits to local biodiversity, enriching the urban ecosystem, but will improve the landscape appearance of the park. The flowering of some species will, in fact, contribute to embellishing the panorama, enriching the city fabric not only in environmental but also aesthetic terms.

The participation in the initiative by Fastweb employees is part of the Week of the Future, the corporate volunteering project launched by the company in which all its people can dedicate up to five working days a year to achieving the corporate objectives of environmental and social sustainability by adhering to activities aimed at the community.

“Our urban forestation program continues – declared the councilor for public green areas Francesco Tresso -. Our goal is to maximize the benefits deriving from trees, not only to combat climate change, but also to significantly improve the quality of life of our citizens. Today we inaugurate a new forestation intervention in the Piedmont park, made possible thanks to the fundamental support of companies and partners such as Fastweb, Legambiente and AzzeroCO2. These contributions not only highlight our shared attention towards protecting the environment, but also represent a concrete step towards a more sustainable and resilient city”.

“We are really happy to be here in Turin to continue our path of environmental redevelopment of the city with the aim of improving the quality of life of all the inhabitants” declared Claudia Attanasio, Manager of Environmental at Fastweb.” Fastweb has always been at the forefront in the fight against climate change and with this initiative we want to enrich the biodiversity of the municipal area by continuing our commitment to making urban centers more sustainable.”

“In recent years, also thanks to the European Life Terra project, we have been initiating important collaborations and synergies with associations, schools, administrations and virtuous companies. A network that gives us hope that together we can and must slow down the current climate emergency – declared Rubina Pinto, Deputy Director of Legambiente Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta – Planting new trees is one of the actions that allows us to actively involve citizens . Trees are precious allies in adapting to climate change and combating air pollution, as well as being a tool for reducing the loss of biodiversity. A tree, especially planted in the most critical areas such as urban areas, represents the right to live in a healthy environment and a concrete commitment towards the new generations”.

“Addressing the challenge of climate change requires more than just words; needs concrete actions that leave a tangible sign – underlined Alessandro Martella, Commercial Director of AzzeroCO2 -. The forestation work we have carried out here in Parco Piemonte, in synergy with Fastweb and in collaboration with the municipal administration, is a real contribution to the climate resilience and environmental regeneration of the city of Turin. By introducing a thousand new pints into the city fabric we not only enrich the urban landscape, but also provide a vital boost to biodiversity and ecological rebalancing. The initiative is part of the European project ‘LIFE Terra’ which sees Legambiente as the only Italian partner and of which we are supporters, a concrete example of how synergistic work between different realities allows us to restore value to our territories and provide citizens with places that can be used contact with nature”.
