PADANG, KOMPAS.TV – An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 rocked Tuapejat, West Sumatra today, Monday (5/2/2024).
According to a report from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), today’s West Sumatra earthquake occurred at 07.52 WIB.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in the sea 89 km southwest of the South Coast with a depth of 16 kilometers. BMKG said the earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami.

According to the results of BMKG analysis, the West Sumatra earthquake this morning was also felt in a number of areas such as Mentawai, Padang and Bukittinggi.
“Feeling (MMI) III Mentawai, III Padang, III Agam, III Padang Pariaman, II Pesisir Selatan, II Padang Panjang, II Bukittinggi #BMKG,” he said.

BMKG asks the public to be aware of the potential for aftershocks that may occur.
“BMKG advice: Be careful of possible aftershocks,” he said.
