The major Istanbul club is letting its members decide on a possible exit from the top Turkish league after the recent attacks in Trabzon.

At an extraordinary general meeting, the renowned football club from Istanbul lets its members vote on whether >> Fenerbahce should withdraw from the Turkish Süper Lig. The club had already threatened this step after generic fans attacked Fenerbahce players during a league game at Trabzonspor. This attack was just the culmination of a series of similar incidents in Turkish football in recent months.

Fenerbahce president Ali Koc said: “We will be relegated to a lower league if necessary. We would rather die in one day than die every day.” Fenerbahce is currently in second place in the table and only two points behind leaders Galatasaray.

Supposed offers from Spain and France

In connection with the possible exit from the Süper Lig, the Spanish La Liga and the French Ligue 1 are said to have offered to offer Fenerbahce a place. The hope is for additional income due to the large fan base that Fenerbahce would bring with them. However, these two ideas are not realistic. According to Spanish law, no team from abroad can participate in the national or local leagues. And such an entry would also be associated with very strict procedures and requirements in Ligue 1.
