Fielding Emil Audero, Inter Milan fell 0-1 against Sassuolo

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Inter Milan lost 0-1 when they visited bottom team Sassuolo in the 35th week of Serie A 2023/24 at Mapei Stadium on Sunday morning WIB.

The hosts’ only goal was scored by Armand Lauriente in the middle of the first half. Meanwhile, Inter failed to score a goal back despite dominating throughout the match.

This is Inter’s second defeat in the Italian league this season, the first defeat was also by Sassuolo with a score of 1-2 on 28 September last year.

This result did not really affect Simeone Inzaghi’s troops, who had secured the Scudetto the previous week.

The Nerazzurri top the standings with 89 points from 35 matches, while Sassuolo is ranked 18th or the bottom two in the relegation zone with 29 points.

Sassuolo still has a chance to get out of the red zone, provided they win the remaining two matches and the two teams above them fail to get points, as quoted by the official Italian League website.

Inter, who were already champions, fielded Indonesian goalkeeper Emil Audero. Meanwhile, the home team played with enthusiasm because they needed a win to escape relegation.

Sassuolo’s attack attempts troubled Inter’s defense several times, one of which was in the 16th minute through Martin Erlic’s kick in the Inter box. However, Audero was still able to stop it.

Sassuolo were able to open the scoring in the 20th minute taking advantage of Denzel Dumfries’ mistake in controlling the ball in their own defense.

Josh Doig managed to grab the ball and send a pass to the near post which was completed by Armand Lauriente’s hard kick into the top corner of Audero’s goal. The score is 1-0.

Inter equalized the score in stoppage time through Lautaro Martinez who grabbed Carlo Augusto’s shot at the far post. However, the referee annulled the goal because Lautaro was caught offside.

Trailing 0-1, Inter started the second half with a high tempo to balance the score.

Despite dominating possession of the ball, poor finishing was an obstacle for the visiting team to equalize.
