Martin Harris and his wife, Liz, arrive in Berlin for a biotechnology summit. At the hotel, Harris realizes he left his briefcase at the airport and takes a taxi to retrieve it.
The taxi was involved in an accident and knocked him unconscious. The driver rescued him but immediately fled the scene. Harris woke up in hospital after being in a coma for four days.
When Harris returns to the hotel, he finds Liz with another man. Liz says this man is her husband and states she doesn’t know Harris. The police were called, and Harris tried to prove his identity by calling a colleague named Rodney Cole, but to no avail.
He found his schedule for the next day, when he had an appointment to visit Professor Leo Bressler’s office. When Harris tried to prove his identity, Harris provided identification and a photo of his family.
His confused memories made Harris lose consciousness and wake up again in the hospital. A terrorist named Smith kills Harris’ nurse, while Harris immediately runs away from him.
Harris sought help from private investigator and former Stasi agent Ernst Jürgen. Harris’ only clues are his father’s book on botany and Gina, the taxi driver, a Bosnian immigrant who has been working at a restaurant since the accident. Will Harris find his identity again?
