Filippo Mosca detained in Romania. The mother “My son as Ilaria Salis”

«We are doing everything possible to get my son out of the Porta Alba prison-lager in Costanza, Romania. The Romanian lawyer, who I spoke to on the phone today, asked for a meeting with the management of the institute, but we also asked for the presence of representatives of our embassy from whom we await a response.” He says it Ornella Matraxia, 55 years old, mother of Filippo Moscathe 29-year-old from Caltanissetta, arrested in early May 2023 and detained for almost 9 months, in Romania, after a first degree sentence of 8 years and 6 months for international drug trafficking.

In recent days Ornella Matraxia, who lives in London, had denounced the inhuman conditions of detention in which her son is forced to live: 25 people in a cell, a hole in the floor as a bathroom, shower once a week with ice water, no blanket, slop for food, inhumane sanitary conditions. «The last contact with the Farnesina – states the woman – dates back to January 24th, when my Romanian lawyer and I were received by an official. They know the facts and have a copy of the file, they found a series of inconsistencies. They told me that they cannot intervene from a judicial perspective and that they would have interested the embassy in prison conditions.”

In these 9 months the Romanian lawyer has asked for the benefit of house arrest which, however, has always been denied. “But now – explains the young man’s mother – we will ask for an accompanying letter from the Italian embassy in Bucharest so that it can guarantee that Filippo will not leave Romania until the end of the trial”. The hearing to obtain house arrest is set for February 12th. The appeal process will be in April.
