Final! Rapid ends DSV Leoben’s cup fairytale

The first ÖFB Cup finalist is called SK Rapid!

The Hütteldorfers lived up to their role as favorites on Wednesday evening in the atmospheric Monte Schlacko Arena and clearly beat DSV Leoben 3-0 in the semi-finals of the cup.

An own goal from Halili paved the way for the Green-Whites to reach the final in the 27th minute after a dominant first half of the game. A few minutes earlier, Kevin Friesenbichler missed a huge chance to make it 1-0 for the Obersteirers (15th). Immediately before the break, Christoph Lang took advantage of a faux pas by the Leobner defense and increased the score to 2-0 (41′).

In the second half, the home team tried to turn things around, but Rapid was unimpressed and maintained their lead. Pichler showed one of the underdog’s few signs of life in the 78th minute with a long-range shot from the pole.

In stoppage time, Joker Fally Mayulu brought the score to 3-0. Rapid is again in the final of the ÖFB Cup (defeat against Sturm Graz), Leoben ultimately fails against the fourth Bundesliga team and has to say goodbye to the competition.
