Fiorentina scores late, draws with Brugge and reaches the Conference League final

With a late goal, Fiorentina drew 1-1 with Club Brugge and qualified for the Conference League final. The teams took to the field this Wednesday (8), at the Jan Breydel Stadium, in Bruges, Belgium. The home team opened the scoring with midfielder Vanaken, but striker Lucas Beltrán scored from the penalty spot and left everything the same.

With the result, Fiorentina will face the winner of the duel between Olympiakos and Aston Villa. The teams will face each other this Thursday (9), at 4pm (Brasília time), at the Karaiskákis Stadium. The big decision is scheduled to be held on May 29th, in Athens.

The game

In the first leg, in Italy, Fiorentina had beaten Brugge 3-2. As a result, the Belgians needed at least one goal to tie the duel on aggregate. Said and done: Vanaken found the net 20 minutes into the first half. After the move, the match lost intensity.

Both teams were more concerned about not losing than seeking victory, and the game only had excitement in the final minutes. Brandon Mechele brought down M’Bala Nzola trying to block a shot from the Ivorian striker and the referee awarded a penalty, which Beltrán didn’t waste: 1-1.
