Franziska Giffey attacked in Berlin: how she is now

BERLIN. The German social democratic politician Franziska Giffey, currently a senator with responsibility for the Economy of the Berlin administration, suffered an attack by unknown assailants and ended up in hospital with a head wound, fortunately not serious. She informed the police. The former mayor of the capital, who also worked as Family Minister alongside Angela Merkel in the past, was attacked yesterday in the Neukoelln district. The 46-year-old was hit “from behind by a man who used a bag containing something hard and who inflicted a blow on her head and neck”. Immediately afterwards the attacker ran away.

Giffey was taken to hospital for medication, but was quickly discharged. An investigation has been opened into the matter. Last Friday, SPD leader Matthias Ecke was attacked and seriously injured by a group of teenagers.
