French actor Gerard Depardieu will face trial in October on sexual assault charges, the Paris prosecutor’s office told CNN this Monday (29).
The attacks were allegedly committed against two people in September 2021, during the filming of the film “Les Volets Verts”, added the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which did not identify the victims.
The actor is also being formally investigated on suspicion of rape and sexual assault, which allegedly occurred in August 2018 against actress Charlotte Arnould, the prosecutor’s office said.
Depardieu has already been placed under formal investigation for alleged rape and sexual assault after several women came forward with complaints against him. The Frenchman denied all allegations against him.
A CNN contacted his lawyer for comment on the trial. On Monday morning, the representative told CNN that the actor had been taken into police custody in Paris for questioning.
Depardieu presented himself at a police station in Paris on Monday morning, according to BFMTV, and was questioned about allegations of sexual assault allegedly occurring on film sets.
He is known for his roles in films such as “Green Card”, “The Man in the Iron Mask” and “Life of Pi”. He was also nominated for an Oscar in 1991 for his role in “Cyrano de Bergerac.”
In 2013, Depardieu obtained Russian citizenship from Vladimir Putin after saying he would give up his French passport in protest against the government’s plans for a tax increase on the richest.
