In “Renascer”, Gabriela Medeiros plays Buba, a transsexual who gets involved with Zé Venâncio (Rodrigo Simas), one of the sons of the protagonist José Inocêncio (Marcos Palmeira). The character was called a hermaphrodite in the first version of the soap opera, shown in 1993, and played by a cisgender woman, actress Maria Luisa Mendonça.
