Gasoline chaos, London prepares the army to refuel gas stations

by admin

Reinforcements arrive. After assuring that there was no need to mobilize the army to resolve the petrol crisis, the British government changed its mind. The soldiers are on stand-by and will intervene to ensure fuel deliveries to the many petrol stations that have remained dry, Defense Minister Ben Wallace confirmed today.

“The men and women of our armed forces are ready to alleviate problems where they are most serious,” Wallace said. This is why I have authorized them to be ready to answer the call when necessary ». At least 150 soldiers licensed to drive tankers will be trained these days to be ready to intervene.

The minister: we will return to normal in a few days

The Ministry of Defense gave the green light following the request of the Minister of Business Kwasi Kwarteng, who activated the emergency mechanism Maca (military aid to civil authorities). However, the minister insisted that this is a “rational precaution” and a “temporary measure” because the situation will return to normal “within a few days”.

The Labor opposition has declared that the intervention of the army is “an admission of bankruptcy” by the Government and that it is in any case a “patch” that does not solve the substantial problem of the shortage of 100,000 truckers in Great Britain, which has reduced deliveries and led to shortages not only of gasoline but also of foodstuffs in many supermarkets.

Meanwhile, queues at gas stations continue across the country for the fifth day, and two-thirds of gas stations have had to close because they ran out of fuel, according to the Petrol Retailers Association.
