Forty-five minute phone call between Joe Biden e Benjamin Netanyahu, the first contact after over a month. Rafah, it was underlined, “is also an important crossing point for the help and finally it is located on the border withEgypt“. This is why Biden asked Netanyahu to send a team to Washington to explain why the United States thinks attacking Rafah would be “a mistake” that would bring “more chaos to Gaza.” According to what Sullivan reported, the US president told the Israeli prime minister that to defeat Hamas “you need a strategy that works“. Biden, Sullivan said, “did not issue threats” to Netanyahu regarding the halt to US aid, but reiterated his concerns for the fate of civilians in Gaza.
The Israeli prime minister also spoke about the contents of the phone call: with the US president “we talked about the latest developments in the war, including theIsrael’s commitment to achieving all conflict objectives“, Netanyahu said, listing among these objectives: “theelimination of Hamasthe release of all our hostages and the promise that Gaza will no longer represent one threat for Israel.” “And this – she underlined – while providing the humanitarian aid necessary to achieve these objectives”.
