The Geological Agency reveals the history of tsunamis caused by eruptions Space Mountain, North Sulawesi. The Geological Agency said the tsunami caused by the eruption reached a height of 25 meters.
“As for the tsunami threat itself, we learned from history from the eruption of Mount Ruang that occurred. It was indeed a tsunami that occurred to the western part of Tagulandang Island which was around 25 meters high, and also had an impact several hundred meters on the mainland of Tagulandang Island on the southwest side. ” said the Head of the Volcano Observation Working Team, Heruningtyas, in a press conference, Thursday (18/4/2024).
Heruningtyas explained that Mount Ruang began to erupt in 1808 until today in 2024. Mount Ruang is dominated by explosive eruptions which produce hot clouds. Apart from that, the results of Mount Ruang’s eruption have been recorded several times, namely larval flows and hot clouds that hit the entire island of Mount Ruang.

“And this is one of the dangers that has quite an impact on human life is the very threatening glowing rock thrown, and this bomb or volcanic fall does not only occur in the area of Gunung Ruang Island. But it also occurs in the western part of Tagulandang Island or the island opposite Gunung Ruang. space,” he explained.
Heruningtyas said that one of the dangers that threatens the eruption of Mount Ruang is the danger of lava only in the Ruang Island area.
It is known that PVMBG has increased the status of Mount Ruang, Sitaro Regency, North Sulawesi (Sulut), to level IV or alert. Hundreds of residents have been displaced due to this eruption.
This eruption also has the potential for a tsunami. This was caused by the collapse of a mountain body into the sea.
