So far it’s just a rumor, but it comes from a good source: A confidant of “Star Wars” creator George Lucas is talking about the filmmaker’s return to the Star Wars saga – this time not for the cinema, but for Disney +.

Many “Star Wars” fans are of the opinion that everything used to be better. Well, not just “Star Wars” fans. But regardless of whether you mourn the old days or can relate to the latest “Star Wars” entries, the fact is: George Lucas launched a mega-franchise with his original “Star Wars” trilogy, one all around the world‘s most beloved fantasy saga, which continues to this day with new films and now also numerous series – and to which George Lucas could now return after he largely withdrew from the Star Wars business following the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney.
At least that’s what Roger Christian claims, who worked closely with George Lucas on several “Star Wars” projects and won an Oscar as set decorator for “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” in 1978. Roger Christian casually dropped the bombshell in an interview with YouTuber Star Wars Theory that he had heard that George Lucas was working on a new “Star Wars” project.
Is George Lucas making a Star Wars series?
“I think he’s coming back, I’m pretty sure he’s doing a series. I think they’re bringing him back into the game now. “I heard that there’s a ‘Star Wars’ live-action series coming, and I have a strong suspicion that George will have something to do with it,” said Roger Christian in the interview
Christian immediately said that perhaps he was just making a prophecy – but everything he had heard pointed to that. But he doesn’t know any more details. Given his connection to Lucas himself and to Lucasfilm, Christian is actually not the worst source here.
The “Star Wars” universe on Disney+*
George Lucas had taken on a consulting role for “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens” in 2015, but then made himself clear about creative differences with Disney. However, he later apologized for his comments and the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” creator and the Mouse House are now on good terms – which makes a future collaboration at least more likely than it was a few years ago.
Disney+ is celebrating great success with “Star Wars” series
The fact that George Lucas would return not for a movie but for a live-action series on Disney+ would actually be new in the filmmaker’s CV (even if there were plans for the gigantic, but never realized, series “Star Wars: Underworld” But it is not surprising given the success that Disney has achieved with series like “The Mandalorian” and Co. “Star Wars” no longer has to hide behind the cinema films, according to many fans strong stories like “Andor” are now even better than on the big screen.
But which series will Lucas be in charge of? And in what capacity exactly? This currently remains just as open as the question of whether there is actually anything to this rumor. “Star Wars” fans can now look forward to the “Tales of the Jedi” sequel “Tales of the Empire” to celebrate Star Wars Day on May 4th. And in the early morning of June 5, 2024, there will finally be another live-action series replenishment with “Star Wars: The Acolyte”.
