The President of Georgia, Salomé Zourabichvili, has vetoed the so-called “international affect legislation”, in opposition to which Georgian civil society has been protesting for weeks.
The legislation would require media and NGOs to register as “pursuing the pursuits of a international energy” in the event that they obtain greater than 20% of their funding from overseas.
Zourabichvili stated earlier this week that he thought-about the legislation “unacceptable.” On May 14, the Georgian Parliament accepted the controversial legislation in its third and last studying.
«Today I vetoed the ‘Russian’ legislation. This legislation is Russian in its essence and spirit. It contradicts our Constitution and all European guidelines, due to this fact it represents an impediment on our European path.
