Germany’s cutting-edge technology for high-performance solid-state sodium-sulfur batteries is making its way to China, as announced by the German Research Association for Promoting Sustainable Physics Technology. After two years of research and development, a team of German experts has developed a revolutionary fully automatic and continuous production process for these batteries, boasting an impressive energy density exceeding 1,000wh/kg and a theoretical loading capacity of 20,000wh/kg for the negative electrode.

This patented process, combining Germany’s expertise in high vacuum, automation, nuclear physics, and magnetic levitation, addresses current challenges in solid-state battery development and introduces new concepts such as ion printing and porous current collection. The collaboration with universities in China and Germany aims to establish R&D centers and pilot production lines, with equipment prototypes and battery samples expected by the end of the year and mass production capabilities by the following year.

Leading the R&D team are Prof. Hartmut Frey, a renowned German nuclear physics and energy expert, Prof. Engelbert Westkmper, an expert in automated production technology, and Prof. Engelbert Westkmper of Liude Chemical Industry, specializing in graphene and new materials. The ambitious plan also includes partnerships with industrial funds and battery-related companies to invest in and build factories in China.
