German Legend Andreas Brehme Dies

Legend German national team, Andreas Brehmedied at the age of 63 on Tuesday (20/2).

The confirmation that Brehme had died was revealed by the German Football Federation (DFB) and Brehme’s former club, Bayern Munich.

“Rest in peace, Andy,” wrote DFB while uploading a photo of Brehme lifting the trophy when he won the 1990 World Cup.

“FC Bayern is deeply shocked by the death of Andreas Brehme. We will always remember Andreas Brehme in our hearts, as a world champion and above all as a very special person. He will always be part of the FC Bayern family. Rest in peace, dear Andi! ” Bavaria wrote.

Brehme is a legend of the German national team and played for Der Panzer from 1984 to 1994. In total, the former Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan player collected 86 caps and scored eight goals.

One of the goals Brehme scored for the German national team came in the 1990 World Cup final. In the final match at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome, 8 July 1990, Brehme’s penalty in the 85th minute was the deciding factor in Germany’s 1-0 victory.

Brehme’s achievements with the German national team were also achieved when they were runners-up in the 1986 World Cup and Euro 1992.

During his time as a player, Brehme could appear as a left back, left winger and defensive midfielder.

Retiring as a player in 1998, Brehme was coach of Kaiserslautern (2000-2002), SpVgg Unterhaching (2004-2005) and assistant coach of VfB Stuttgart in 2005-2006.
