A man has received 217 Covid-19 vaccinations without experiencing any adverse effects on his immune system. Not only that: some immune cells and antibodies against Sars-Cov2 are even in significantly higher concentrations than in people who have received only three vaccinations.

This was revealed by a study by researchers from the Friedrich-Alexander-Universitat Erlangen-Nurnberg and the Universitatsklinikum Erlangen, which examined the state of human health and any effects due to hypervaccination, published in the journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases. Scientists became aware of the case through newspaper reports. Until now, it was unclear what effects hypervaccination like this had on the immune system.

Some scientists believed that immune cells would become less efficient after becoming accustomed to antigens. But, this did not prove to be the case with the individual in question. More than 60 million people in Germany have been vaccinated against Sars-Coronavirus2, most of them multiple times. The man who has now been analyzed by researchers claims to have received 217 vaccinations for private reasons. There is official confirmation for 134 of these vaccinations.

“We learned about his case through newspaper articles,” explained Kilian Schober, from the Universitatsklinikum Erlangen. “We then contacted him and invited him to undergo various tests in Erlangen,” Schober continued. “He was very interested in doing it,” Schober said. As a rule, vaccinations contain parts of the pathogen or some type of building block that the cells of the vaccinated person can use to produce these pathogen components themselves. Thanks to these antigens, the immune system learns to recognize the real pathogen in the event of a subsequent infection.

“If the body’s immune system is exposed extremely frequently to a specific antigen, it may be the case of a chronic infection, such as HIV or hepatitis B, which presents regular flare-ups,” explained Schober. “It has been shown that certain types of immune cells, known as T cells, become fatigued and release fewer pro-inflammatory messenger substances,” Schober continued.

«This and other effects triggered by the habituation of cells to antigens can weaken the immune system, making it unable to fight the pathogen effectively. However, the current study, which also involved researchers from Munich and Vienna, does not provide any indication in this sense. The individual, who has undergone various blood tests in recent years, allowed us to carry out evaluations on the results of these analyses”, said Schober.
