What initially seemed like single episodes of violence and intolerance could now turn into a trail of violence that is crossing the Germania and which targets exponents of the German left parties. Franziska Giffey, a social democratic exponent who currently holds the role of senator with responsibility for the Economy in the city-Land of Berlin, is the third politician to suffer an attack in a few days. The culprits are currently unknown, no claims have been made, while the woman was taken to hospital with a head woundbut not in serious conditions.
ATTACKED FROM BEHIND – The dynamics of the attack is similar to those recorded in recent days in another city in the country, a Dresdenthe ‘capital’ of the far right which in the next European elections risks significantly breaking through the 20% threshold with Alternative for Germany. This time, however, the ambush took place directly in Berlin. Giffey, who was also mayor of the capital and minister of the Family in one of the Big coalition led by Angela Merkelwas attacked at Neuköllnhit “from behind by a man who used a bag containing something hard and who hit her on the head and neck” before running away.
The 46-year-old thus ended up in hospital, where she was treated and, in any case, quickly discharged. The police are now investigating the incident.
THE TRAIL OF AGGRESSIONS – The attack on Giffey comes only a few days after those involving his party colleague in Dresden, Matthias Cornerand an exponent of the Verdi. In the case of Ecke, the police identified some teenagers as responsible, at least one of them, according to The timelinks with movements of extreme right. The politician was attacked and seriously injured while he was putting up election posters Spd in the eastern German city considered one of the strongholds of extremist parties and movements, from AfD a Pegida. For him, the consequences of the ambush were more serious: the politician was hospitalized will have to be operated on.
A few minutes before the attack on Ecke, according to the police, a group of four people had attacked a 28-year-old Green militant, also while he was attacking: the attackers hit and kicked him, wounding him. Other attempts had also been reported in Dresden intimidation, destruction of posters e insults towards the militants who posted them.
