Global Shipping Executive Angela Chao’s Death Ruled an ‘Unfortunate Accident’ by Texas Sheriff’s Office

**Global Shipping Executive Dies in Tragic Accident**

The CEO of Foremost Group, Angela Chao, tragically passed away in a car accident that resulted in her vehicle submerging into a pond on her Texas ranch. According to a report from the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, Chao had almost three times the legal limit of alcohol in her system at the time of the crash.

The incident occurred on February 11, when Chao, 50, was driving her Tesla Model X SUV on her ranch in Johnson City, Texas. The toxicology report revealed that her blood alcohol concentration was 0.23, well above the legal limit of 0.08 in Texas. However, Chief Deputy Robert Woodring mentioned that since Chao was driving on private property, her alcohol level at the time of death was not considered illegal.

Chao had invited seven friends from Harvard Business School to her ranch to celebrate the Chinese New Year. On the fateful night, she mistakenly engaged reverse gear instead of forward gear while making a U-turn, leading to her vehicle heading towards a pond on her property. Despite contacting a friend and expressing her inability to escape the sinking car, Chao tragically succumbed to the accident.

Angela Chao leaves behind a 3-year-old son, James, and her husband, billionaire venture capitalist Jim Breyer. Her sister, Elaine Chao, who has served in prominent government positions, including Transportation Secretary in the Trump administration, and her brother-in-law, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, are undoubtedly devastated by the loss.

In a statement, the family expressed their deep sorrow over the tragedy and appreciation for the efforts of the first responders and friends who tried to save Angela Chao’s life. Her husband also shared his heartbreak over the loss of his wife, emphasizing the valiant efforts made to rescue her.
