Grenoble authorizes burkini (and topless) in public swimming pools

PARIS – The Grenoble city council has adopted by a narrow majority the ordinance authorizing the wearing of the burkini – the fully opaque swimsuit used by Muslim women – in municipal swimming pools. Immediately after the adoption of the measure by the green-red majority led by the ecological mayor Eric Piolle, the president of the region, Laurent Wauquiez, one of the leaders of the Républicains, announced that in the face of this “separatism” act he will suspend by order immediate all grants to the municipality of Grenoble.
