Hezbollah Launches Missile Attacks in Northern Israel, Prompting Retaliatory Strikes
Hezbollah fired numerous missiles into northern Israel on Thursday in response to bombings that took place in southern Lebanon and resulted in the death of 15 people, including a senior commander of the terrorist group.
The attacks were followed by Israel’s retaliation, where they targeted four Hezbollah barracks after the terrorist organization, supported by Iran, launched a new offensive.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the missile attacks, which targeted the Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona near the Lebanese border. The group also reported a series of attacks on Israeli military positions near the border.
In retaliation, the Israeli Army confirmed that they had killed a commander of the movement, Ali al Debs, as well as his deputy, Ibrahim Issa, and another fighter in a bombing in Nabatieh, south Lebanon.
The attack, according to a Lebanese security source, also resulted in the death of seven civilians, who were part of the same family. Rescuers pulled the bodies of the civilians, including five women and a child, from the rubble.
Following the escalation, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned that their Air Force planes were prepared for heavier bombings on more distant targets. The Chief of the General Staff of the Israeli Army, Herzi Halevi, also warned of an upcoming strong offensive against Hezbollah.
The UN has denounced the recent escalation of violence and emphasized the need to protect civilians, calling for an immediate stop to hostilities.
The conflict has significantly increased tensions on the border between Israel and Lebanon, with daily exchanges of gunfire and the worst border clashes since the 2006 war. The UN interim force in Lebanon has urged all affected parties to cease hostilities immediately.
