Home victory over Austria Vienna! Lustenau keeps hope alive

Austria Lustenau can hope to stay in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga for at least 24 more hours.

The bottom of the table reduced the gap to penultimate Altach to five points with a 2-0 (2-0) win against Wiener Austria on Friday evening. The Altachers are in action at home against the WAC on Saturday, and just one point is enough to save the SCR. Vienna Austria remains the leader of the qualification group, but offers a performance to forget.

Pius Grabher (24th) and Lukas Fridrikas (27th) scored the decisive goals for Andreas Heraf’s team against defensively desolate guests in the first half hour. It is only Lustenau’s third win this season.

It is fitting for the Viennese performance that Tin Plavotic fails with a poorly shot foul penalty against Domenik Schierl (45th + 6th). The favorites are already waiting for a win in three games, and their performance in the “Ländle” should worry coach Michael Wimmer.

Bobzien points out

For the Lustenauers it is the game of the last chance, the starting position is clear: only a win will help, otherwise relegation is sealed. Matthias Maak starts in defense in the 3-4-3, Anderson returns to the team on the right wing.

For the Viennese team, the suspended Dominik Fitz and Johannes Handl are on the absentee list, as are Lucas Galvao and James Holland. Wimmer demanded compensation for the recent weak performances, and his team tried to take control. But it doesn’t take long until the favorites make their first serious mistake.

Marvin Potzmann, who was back in the starting line-up after his injury break, makes a bad pass, after the following counterattack the conspicuous Ben Bobzien fails against Austria goalie Christian Früchtl, Namory Cisse shoots past the goal from an acute angle (8th). It’s an early end again for Anderson. The Brazilian’s knee is bothering him and he has to leave the pitch, Nico Gorzel takes over.

Lustenau remains the more dangerous team as Austria falls behind from minute to minute. The leadership is deserved. Plavotic hits a hole in the air after a long ball, Bobzien leaves the Austrian standing with a hook and sets up for Grabher, who scores his first goal of the season.

Three minutes later it is 2-0, Austria once again shows signs of dissolution. Bobzien has a lot of space on the right, leaves Plavotic standing again and sets up for Fridrikas, who is left alone. The attacker later also has to go out early with an ankle injury.

“Violets” award a penalty

There is no real reaction from Vienna Austria. The Wimmer team is defensively vulnerable and offensively lacking. However, in the sixth minute of injury time, the Violets had the chance to make a comeback.

Lins brings down Muharem Huskovic in the penalty area, surprisingly Plavotic takes the penalty – and fails because of Schierl. The central defender has a second chance seconds later, but shoots wide of the goal.

Both coaches decided not to make any changes during the break. Torben Rhein, who came on for Fridrikas, appeared to make it 3-0 with a volley, but the goal did not count due to Kennedy Boateng being offside.

Wimmer then brings Moritz Wels and Fisnik Asllani for Potzmann and the weak Andreas Gruber. This has hardly any impact. The Viennese tried hard against Lustenauer, who were now looking to protect themselves, but apart from a header and a long-range shot from Manfred Fischer (77th, 91st), they were not dangerous.

With the home win, Austria Lustenau will remain in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga at least until Saturday. Altach is now no longer allowed to score, otherwise the bottom team would be relegated. Despite the bankruptcy, Vienna Austria remains first in the qualifying group.
