Yemen’s Houthis Carry Out Attack on British Oil Tanker and US Warship in Gulf of Aden
The Houthi naval forces have claimed responsibility for an operation targeting the British oil tanker Marlin Luanda in the Gulf of Aden, resulting in a fire onboard. According to Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea, the attack was carried out using several naval missiles and was a direct hit.
In response to the incident, the US military reported that a US warship patrolling the area was also targeted with a projectile, which was ultimately shot down. The attack on the destroyer USS Carney signifies a significant escalation in the ongoing confrontation in the Middle East. It marks the first time the Houthis have directly attacked a US warship, adding a new layer of complexity to the situation.
The incident has raised concerns about the potential for further escalation and heightened tensions in the region. The confrontation in the Gulf of Aden is now being closely monitored as one of the most significant challenges the United States has faced in the Middle East in decades.
