At the moment when Google introduces Tracking Protection and begins removing activity tracking cookies for a portion of Google Chrome internet browser users, while Apple introduced similar restrictions in the middle of last year, the company Meta it does not stand still.

It seems that they were very busy in Meta during this holiday season, so they “launched” a new way for monetizing the internet surfing habits of its users, while hiding it behind the platitude of “improving the user experience”.

And for that they used your history of visited links, i.e. the sites you reached by clicking on links in posts on networks, it says The Register. That’s what Meta’s baruser is for, which is an integral part of the application Facebook i Instagram.

This new way of tracking user activity is new an attempt by Mark Zuckerberg’s company to circumvent the aforementioned restrictions that other tech giants have begun to introduce, and which Meta has begun to feel through a noticeable decrease in advertising revenue.

By the way, the tracked links are kept in the browser history for up to 30 days, but they do not include those that were sent in messages. Their goal is to track user habits so that apps can serve them targeted ads more precisely.
