The New Year’s and Christmas holidays took their toll – we gave ourselves a break and ate perhaps more than necessary. Heavy food in combination with sweets, alcohol and carbonated or non-carbonated juices can cause feeling of heaviness in the stomach, constant flatulence and sluggishness. Many people complain about excess weight, but the most important thing is to preserve health.

Fatty food provokes complaints of the digestive system and gall bladder, which is why the body is burdened with a large amount of fat of animal origin and simple carbohydrates in the form of various types of cakes and tarts, and all this takes place in the evening hours, which makes the situation even worse. On the other side, salty food causes high blood pressure, which can further lead to very serious complications. Nutritionist and fitness trainer Ivana Šarčević shared tips on how to stay fit, healthy and maintain a slim figure.

“If you adhere to a balanced diet and training throughout the year, feel free to relax during those few holiday days. It is much more important how you ate until December. Those few days of festive meals cannot damage your appearance and health,” Ivana Šarčević pointed out at the beginning .

Top 10 things to do after the holidays:Be sure to eat breakfast. Do not skip meals. If you skip meals, insulin may drop and you may compensate with extra calories in the next meal. Let half the plate always be fresh vegetables. It will also fill you up and you will get enough fiber. Move as much as you can or train. Drink less carbonated drinks (unnecessary calories) Eat a little of everything. It is known that there are various specialties on the table during the holidays. Take a little of everything in moderation, so you don’t overeat. Eat with frequent breaks (3-5 minutes) in order to get a signal from your stomach whether you’re still hungry. Reduce glycogen before the holidays (reduced carbohydrate intake) and do one stronger workout. This is important because due to depleted glycogen stores and accelerated metabolism, there is less chance that what you eat will turn into fat. Drink plenty of water. If you drink alcohol, take special care of your water intake. Water also keeps the metabolism fast and harmful substances will go away faster. Therefore, if you consume alcohol, you will prevent dehydration of the body. And, in the end, the holidays pass and you return to your routines and rituals. This is something that is much more important than those few days of celebration.
