Xinhua News Agency, New York, July 4 (Reporter Wang Jiangang) According to US media reports on the 4th, a water leak occurred at a tower at New York’s Kennedy International Airport on the evening of the 3rd, causing nearly 300 flights to be delayed or diverted to other airports.

At about 19:00 on the 3rd, Kennedy Airport said on social media that a main tower of the airport “slightly leaked” and the air traffic controllers were transferred to another tower. Due to related operations and local weather, the FAA is suspending most flights to the airport.

About an hour later, JFK Airport stated that air traffic controllers were returning to the main tower. The airport is still open, but flights may be delayed.

According to reports, the tower’s water leak caused nearly 300 flights to be delayed or re-landed that night. The tower has been repaired and the airport is operating normally.

JFK International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the United States, with a passenger throughput of more than 62.5 million passengers in 2019, and more than 90 airlines operate at the airport. July 4th is the Independence Day of the United States. According to reports, about 3.7 million people in the United States plan to travel by air this weekend, an increase of 164% over the same period last year.
