On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, the Turkish parliament approved Sweden’s request to join the NATO pact, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban wrote on his “X” account, formerly “Twitter”, that Hungary supports Sweden’s membership in the Alliance. He also wrote that he had a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg.

“I had a telephone conversation with the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg. I confirmed to him that the Hungarian Parliament supports Sweden’s membership. I emphasized to him that we will continue to appeal to the Hungarian National Assembly to vote for Sweden’s accession and to ratify the agreement at the first opportunity“, Orban wrote on his “X” account.
