In Medellín the peak and license plate works as follows for private cars (with the last number on the license plate) and motorcycles (with the first number on the license plate) of 2 and 4 strokes:

  • Monday: 5 and 8.
  • Tuesday: 1 and 4.
  • Wednesday: 2 and 0.
  • Thursday: 3 and 6.
  • Friday: 7th and 9th.

The rule is implemented Monday through Friday between 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Peak and plate free routes:
The river road system (South Highway, Regional Avenue and Parallel Avenue), Avenida La Palmas, Avenida 33 (from the River to its connection with Las Palmas), Cl. 10 (from the river to the Terminal de Sur and its connection with the Henrique Olaya Herrera Airport), sides of the La Iguaná ravine (between Carreras 68 and 80), northern road (east-west direction) of the Horacio Toro bridge, between the loops that allow the return to the south.
This restriction does not apply in the townships of Medellín.

Fines for not complying with the Pico y Placa in Medellín
People who fail to comply with the vehicle restriction program will be subject to a financial penalty.

The current fine, according to the Medellín Mayor’s Office, is equivalent to 15 current minimum wages, in addition, the car will be immobilized.

The Pico y Placa is a measure that restricts the circulation of vehicles in the city, with the aim of improving traffic and mobility of citizens.
