Four trains in the area of ​​the main station and three other trains on the railway line were evacuated with the help of federal police, fire brigade and railway staff – around 1,600 passengers were affected.

S-Bahn trains are still unable to reach the main station

The accident happened around 3:48 p.m. Deutsche Bahn was able to resume train services around 6:20 p.m., a spokeswoman said. However, the route between the main station and Altona as well as the S-Bahn tracks remained closed for the time being. At around 10 p.m., the S-Bahn announced that the main station could still not be served by S-Bahn trains. The crashed train still had to be recovered.

After the accident, the fire department arrived with a large contingent. She rescued a seriously injured worker using a turntable ladder and with the support of height rescuers onto the bridge, which is located at the northern end of the main train station. From there he was taken to a hospital. According to the fire department, six other workers were slightly injured – and also taken to hospitals.

According to the railway, the construction train was tilted under the Ernst Merck Bridge because its superstructure hit the bridge ceiling. The police and fire department initially said that the train had derailed. It was still unclear how the accident could have happened. The fire department said it was on duty with 120 people for around six hours.
