In response to the news of the death of Yukio Kasaya, who won the gold medal in the 70m ski jump class (now Normal Hill) at the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) published a memorial article on the 26th, commemorating the boy’s jump. Sandro Pertile, who is in charge of the event, expressed his condolences, saying, “This is a sad and great loss.He was one of the legendary Olympic champions in this event.”
He also introduced an episode in which Mr. Kasaya won three consecutive jumps during jump week in the 1971-72 season, but missed the final race and returned home to prepare for the Sapporo Olympics.
Ryosuke Kobayashi, a gold medalist at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, commented, “I heard that he was a leader not only in the jumping world, but also in the skiing world.I pray for his repose in peace.”
