iPhone alert, personal data at risk: how to protect yourself
Updating to iOS 17 has changed the way passwords work. Now when you change your password you can continue to use the previous one for 72 hours following the change. This change is designed for security in case you forget your new password, allowing you to log back into your phone using the password already stored. The problem arises when we change password because someone discovered the previous one. In this case, in fact, there remains a 72-hour window for this person to access our phone, even if we proceed to change the password as soon as possible.

Luckily there is a solution. iOS 17 allows you to let your previous password expire immediately. If someone knows your previous password you therefore have the possibility to remove it immediately, without having to wait 72 hours. To do this we must first of all make sure we have iOS 17 installed under Settings -> General -> Software Update. Once confirmed we go back to Settings and go up Face ID & Passcode, entering the new password. Here we will find the option to let the previous password expire immediately. Just one click and the situation is resolved.
For those who actually want to use the new function, its use is very simple: once the incorrect password has been entered five times, we will find a new option “Forgot password?” in the corner of the screen. Here we will be able to enter the previous password, along with the option to create a new one. Obviously this option is available only for 72 hours after entering the new password.
