Isnes win against the old club – effectively Strømsgodset beat YMCA 3-1 – Dagsavisen

Godset won relatively comfortably after an early and a late score in the first half. Herman Stengel scored twice and secured victory for the hosts and coach Jørgen Isnes, who met again with the club he coached until 2022.

YMCA seemed to have a bit of a tempo shock in the opening of both halves and took some time to establish play. Already after six minutes, Godset scored the first goal when a fine attack ended with Eirik Ulland Andersen placing the ball in the goal on a pass from Marko Farji.

“Kåffa” seemed to be ignited by the late goal, and the hosts took action and put Strømsgodset under constant pressure. The home team won a number of set-pieces, but without converting it into scoring against the solid centre-backs Gustav Valsvik and Jesper Taaje.

Mercilessly

One got the feeling that YMCA was approaching an equaliser, but instead Godset scored in the 42nd minute when the hosts’ captain, Robin Rasch, headed the ball back into his own half from a pressured position. Logi Tómasson tipped the ball away from Momodou Njie and shielded it to Stengel, who finished nimbly and smartly in the near corner.

– We are a little too low, a little too long, and then we are unable to take care of the ball. But 2-0 we have to say we are satisfied with, said Stengel to TV 2 during the break.

The YMCA players apparently believed that the 2-0 goal should have been disallowed for a high foot on Tomasson.

– I don’t dare to go in properly when his foot is so high, said Njie.

Press hard

After a change of sides, Godset created two great chances in the opening minutes, but YMCA would again play gradually to an advantage. Simen Hestnes took responsibility and hammered the ball into the far corner after 65 minutes.

The score ignited a spark in the YMCA players, and Sverre Sandal came close to equalizing a few minutes later. Per Kristian Bråtveit then held out with a great save that ensured Godset’s continued leadership.

YMCA had fought back and secured a draw against both HamKam and Kristiansund, but could not do so in their third elite league match despite sustained pressure in the last half hour.

Instead, Stengel would puncture the match after 85 minutes. He was perfectly cleared by Andersen and scored on the return after Emil Ødegaard stopped the first shot attempt.

At the weekend, Godset will play away to HamKam, while YMCA will visit Sarpsborg. On April 28, Kåffa finally gets to play on its own home ground in Ekeberg. Then Brann comes to visit.
