Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made a strong case for the creation of a Palestinian state during his annual press conference in Moscow on Thursday. Lavrov emphasized the importance of a Palestinian state that fully complies with the decisions of the Security Council, existing in security and good neighborliness alongside Israel and other countries in the region.
Lavrov warned that without the creation of a Palestinian state, there is a risk of continued violence and unrest in the region, as the Palestinian people will continue to feel disadvantaged and live in conditions of inferior justice. He urged for an end to this situation and emphasized the need for the international community to support the creation of a Palestinian state.
Lavrov expressed hope that Israel would eventually come to realize the importance of a Palestinian state, but acknowledged that it may be unacceptable to Israel at this time. He stressed the importance of direct dialogue between Palestinians and Israelis, stating that US mediation efforts will not be successful without direct dialogue.
Lavrov’s comments come at a crucial time as tensions remain high in the region, particularly in Gaza. He emphasized the need for a peaceful and sustainable solution through the creation of a Palestinian state and urged for international support in achieving this goal.
