Thousands March in Jerusalem to Demand Early Elections in Israel
Jerusalem, Israel – Thousands of people took to the streets this Tuesday in Jerusalem in a march towards the home of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The march was part of the “national week of protest” called by the opposition to demand early elections in Israel.
The protesters, divided into multiple directions in the residential neighborhood of Rehavia, were met by a large police force attempting to erect barricades to prevent their passage, according to reports from ‘The Times of Israel’.
Meanwhile, near the Israeli Parliament, former Prime Minister Ehud Barak, who led the Democratic Party of Israel from 1999 to 2001, joined protesters who had gathered in the area with tents for the third consecutive night.
The week of protests is set to culminate on Saturday, April 6, with a large demonstration on Kaplan Street and Kidnapped Square in Tel Aviv. The demonstration aims to remember the six months since the attacks by Palestinian militias in Gaza began and the kidnapping of over a hundred hostages who are still in the enclave.
