The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) has announced the appointment of Domenico Nucera, President, Bus Business Unit, Iveco Group, as president of the bus and coach division. With his election, Domenico Nucera received a mandate lasting one year.
“The European Union has set very ambitious decarbonisation targets for buses and coaches in 2024. However, the ambitions expressed on paper are not reflected in the realization of these targets in reality, as equally ambitious enabling conditions are lacking in Europe,” he said Domenico Nucera.
Bus and coach manufacturers continue to work to develop cleaner, greener models that help reduce CO2 emissions from road transport, but it is clear that they cannot tackle this challenge alone. Public transport operators and trucking companies must be able to invest in new models that are also operationally profitable. Collaboration with all stakeholders, policy makers, transport operators, infrastructure providers for electric charging and hydrogen refueling, and other actors, is therefore fundamental in the context of decarbonisation of heavy transport.
“Buses are the most popular means of public transport in the European Union, being used for more than half of all journeys. They boast the lowest environmental impact of any other means of motor transport, while offering an essential public service and making a decisive contribution to decarbonisation”, explains Domenico Nucera.
“Currently, more than 700,000 buses circulate on European roads, ensuring the mobility of all their users. However, policy makers must focus their attention on the competitiveness of this vital sector to counter growing competition from other regions of the world,” adds Domenico Nucera.
