Jannik Sinner had to struggle with problems
In purely sporting terms, things are still going according to plan for Jannik Sinner at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid. The Australian Open winner reached the round of 16 on Monday evening with a 6:2 and 7:5 win over Pavel Kotov. However, the South Tyrolean is likely to be worried about minor hip problems.
Sinner visibly struggled with injury concerns, especially in the second set. The world number two was confronted with a 3:5 deficit, but then won four games in a row and ultimately moved safely into the round of 16.
Sinner will face Karen Khachanov in the round of 16. The top-seeded Italian is considered the big favorite for the title alongside Carlos Alcaraz in the Spanish capital. After the match against Kotov, Sinner gave the all-clear regarding his physical condition: “It’s nothing serious. Sometimes I feel the pain in my hip more, sometimes less.”
