King Harald (86) is on sick leave until Friday 2 February due to a respiratory infection. It reports the royal house.
Crown Prince Haakon (50) will carry out the king’s program in his father’s absence.
Communications Manager at the Palace, Guri Varpe, does not wish to comment on the matter beyond the press release.
On Wednesday, King Harald was to hold a reception at the Castle on the occasion of the opening of the 750th anniversary of Magnus Lagabøte’s Land Act. The Queen and the Crown Prince will now be responsible for this. The Crown Prince will also hold an audience on Thursday at 10 a.m. and ministers on Friday morning, the royal house’s program shows.
The Crown Prince is well used to taking over his father’s official duties when necessary. At the latest last summer, he stepped in as regent when King Harald was taken ill as a result of a cold, and also when he was diagnosed with corona shortly afterwards.
