“The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe” is an anime movie released on November 17, 2023. The number of viewers exceeded 1.9 million, the box office revenue exceeded 2.7 billion yen, and it won the Best Animation Award at the 47th Japan Academy Awards.
The story connects to the “birth of Kitaro” and depicts the encounter between Kitaro’s father (formerly Medama Oyaji) and the human Mizuki, and how the two fathers confront their fierce fate. It is also the zero episode of the 6th season of the TV anime “GeGeGe no Kitaro”.

Kitaro and Medama Oyaji set foot in the ruins of the former Yagura Village.
Medama Oyaji was remembering an event that happened in this village 70 years ago.

In 1955, Yagura Village was ruled by the Ryuga clan, which controlled Japan’s political and business circles behind the scenes.
Mizuki, who works at the Imperial Blood Bank, takes on his ambitions and secret mission while mourning the death of the head of the family, Tokisada, while Kitaro’s father sets out into the village to find a wife.
An ugly fight has begun in the Ryuga clan over Tokisada’s successor.
Meanwhile, one of the family members is brutally murdered at the village shrine.
It was the beginning of a terrifying chain of events.
