[New Tang Dynasty Beijing, April 2, 2022]Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison confirmed on Friday (April 1) that a batch of Bushmaster armored vehicles will be airlifted to Ukraine. These high-tech troop-carrying armored vehicles are known as “Jungle Kings”, and their high-quality performance has been praised worldwide.

Zelensky addressed the Australian Parliament via video on March 31, asking for further assistance, specifically mentioning the desire for the Bushmaster armored vehicle.

Morrison responded on April 1 that the armoured vehicles would be flown to Kyiv by Boeing C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft, in response to a public request by the Ukrainian president.

“We’re not only going to send our prayers, we’re going to send our guns, our ammunition, our humanitarian aid … our body armor,” Morrison said. “We’re going to send our armoured vehicles, including Our Bushmaster.”

Australian Defence Minister Peter Dutton said on the 1st that they were doing logistical work on how to transport the Bushmaster personnel carrier to Ukraine. Even a huge plane might only be able to carry three, maybe four at a time.

The Bushmaster Protected Motor Vehicle (PMV), or Infantry Motor Vehicle, is an Australian-made four-wheel-drive armoured vehicle known as the “Jungle King”. It weighs 11 tons and can quickly deploy up to 10 soldiers to the battlefield.

The four-wheel-drive armoured vehicle can withstand any environment and protect troops from bomb blasts, and was widely used by the Australian Defence Force during the conflict in Afghanistan. It can carry mortars and other heavy weapons, as well as machine guns and other military equipment.

The Bushmaster can carry enough fuel and supplies to operate for three days without resupply, and it has a central tire inflation device to keep driving even in the event of a puncture.

Bushmasters have been used in the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, East Timor, the Golan Heights campaign, the Iraqi Civil War, the Syrian Civil War, and the conflict in northern Mali. It has won high praise from coalition forces in the Middle East, including the U.S. military, which also appreciates the car.

Bushmasters have been produced in several versions, including troop, command, anti-aircraft, ambulance, assault vanguard, mortar, direct-fire weapons, and general maintenance.

Retired Australian Army Major General Mick Ryan described the Bushmaster as “a fantastic machine designed and built in Australia”. Part of the appeal of Bushmasters is their ease of operation, Ryan said, and training Ukrainians on how to use and maintain them would be very simple.

“They’ve saved Australian lives and they’ll do the same for Ukrainians,” Ryan said.
