British actor Bernard Hill has died at the age of 79. This is what the British broadcaster reports BBC citing his management. Hill leaves behind his wife and a son.
Became a global star with “Titanic” and “Lord of the Rings”
Hill was born in Manchester in 1944 and appeared in numerous films, TV productions and the theater throughout his life. He became best known for the two world-famous and multiple Oscar-winning classics “Titanic” and “Lord of the Rings”. In “Titanic” he played the captain of the ship. In “Lord of the Rings” he took on the role of King Théoden.

Earlier in his career, Hill starred in the 1982 BBC drama Boys from the Blackstuff, which won numerous awards and is still hailed as one of the best of its genre from the period. He stars alongside Martin Freeman in the second series of the BBC drama The Responder, which airs in the UK from Sunday.
Colleagues mourn Hill’s death
British actress and singer Barbara Dickson, who starred with Hill in a musical based on the Beatles, reacted to her colleague’s death on X: “It is with great sadness that I note the death of Bernard Hill,” she wrote. “A truly wonderful actor. It was a privilege to have crossed paths with him. RIP Benny.”
