May 1st is Labor Day. The Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) in particular celebrates the day with many events across the country.
Nope. In the state capital, the festival is celebrated in the old tradition of “meeting in the morning, relaxing outdoors in the afternoon,” wrote the Arbeiterzeitung in its announcement of the first May Day march. We will live up to this tradition again this year when the family festival takes place after the joint May march and May rally.
There are three May marches that go to the town hall square
Group North:
Start: 7:30 Volksheim Viehofen (Mühlweg 192) – Bischofsteich
Middle group:
Start: 8:20 Bischofsteich – Rathausplatz
Group South:
Start: 8:10 Josefstrasse/Kranzbichlerstrasse – Rathausplatz
Hergovich, Stadler and Laimer
From 9:00 a.m. the political presentations by MEP Günther Sidl, LPV Sven Hergovich, Mayor Matthias Stadler and NR Robert Laimer will take place. Then the family celebration starts. “The Riding Dudes” bring the usual rock’n’roll flair to the town hall square. Austropopmeetsrock will be playing from 1 p.m. For the youngest, a swing ship, a bouncy castle, a climbing tower and a trampoline offer the best conditions for an entertaining day. The Foottruck from S’Huutsch, Volkshilfe and the SPÖ Women take care of the physical well-being.
Twilight pint in Amstetten
On April 30th, the twilight drinking begins at 6 p.m. in Allersdorf. The May celebrations begin on May 1st at 10 a.m. at the Children’s Friends Home in Neufurth. The next event is at the local square in Greinsfurth at 4 p.m.
Morning pint in Wr. Neustadt
Vice Mayor Rainer Spenger invites you to an event at the Haidbrunnplatz sports facility. It starts at 10 a.m. in Anton Afritsch-Gasse 3. Guests can expect free beer (donated by Rainer Spenger and Sabine Bugnar), fries, schnitzel and drinks.
Festival in Krems
At 9 a.m. everyone arrives at the Volkshaus Lerchenfeld. The march through the district begins with music. The morning pint begins at 10:15 a.m. with the voestalpine Krems factory band. City councilor Alexandra Ambrosch welcomes the guests at 10:30 a.m. State councilor and state party chairman Sven Hergovich will give the ceremonial speech.
“Labor Day obviously has a special meaning for the SPÖ, especially here in Lower Austria. Especially at a time when workers are under pressure and the ÖVP and FPÖ are in favor of longer working hours, it is more important than ever to fight for workers’ rights and fair wages! Social democracy will always be the strong voice of workers in this country, as the Chamber of Labor election has shown this! In any case, May 1st is predestined to emphasize again and again the importance of a just and solidarity-based society,”
said the state party chairman.
