Jakarta (ANTARA) – McLaren Mercedes racer Lando Norris felt very proud after winning his first Formula 1 Grand Prix (GP) by winning the Miami GP at the Miami International Autodrome, Florida, Sunday local time or Monday morning WIB.

The British racer was leading when the Safety Car was deployed on lap 29 of a total of 57 laps following a collision between Logan Sargeant and Kevin Magnussen. At this moment, Norris made a pit stop at the right time and led the race in P1.

Norris finished in pole position with a 7.612 second advantage over Max Verstappen who finished in second place and prevented the Red Bull Racing racer from winning the GP for the second time this season.

This victory is Norris’ first F1 series victory since joining F1 five years ago, after previously he only achieved a second best podium, most recently at the Chinese GP two weeks ago.

“I feel proud. “The whole weekend went well, I only experienced a few setbacks along the way,” said Norris, quoted from the official F1 website, Monday.

This victory, Norris said, was thanks to McLaren’s “perfect strategy”.

“I know on Friday we had some speed, just a few mistakes here and there, but today we managed to put it together. “We implemented the perfect strategy together, it all paid off,” said the Bristol-born racer.

“Thanks to McLaren, everyone, and of course I have to give support to my mother and father,” he added.

Finally, the racer who was born on November 13 1999 was asked what message he would convey to the team, where he has spent his entire career in F1 until now and after 2025.

“What should I tell them? “I’m really proud,” answered Norris.

“A lot of people doubted me all along. I’ve made a lot of mistakes over the last five years, my short career, but today we put it all together so it’s all for the team,” he added.

“I stayed with McLaren because I believed in them and I did believe in them. Today proved that,” he continued.

This victory puts Norris in fourth place in the standings with 83 points, a difference of 53 points from leader Max Verstappen.
