The Italian won the 15km individual event at the Worlds. The Swiss have made up for it somewhat after disappointing performances in recent days.
Lisa Vittozzi won her first individual gold medal at the World Championships on Tuesday in Nové Město. The Swiss showed themselves to be more solid than in previous events but still remained far from the podium.
The Italian, already golden in relay last year, delivered one of the only flawless shots to win with a 20.5″ lead during the 15km individual event. She won her second medal at these Worlds, two days after taking silver in the pursuit. The German Janina Hettich-Walz, also impeccable behind the rifle, created a surprise by finishing 2nd. The 27-year-old biathlete had until now never done better than 5th individual place in the World Cup. At the Worlds, his best result was 20th place last winter. The French Julia Simon, already a three-time gold medalist in Nové Město, had to settle for a bronze medal.
After disappointing performances in recent days in the Czech Republic, the Swiss regained some form on Tuesday. Lena Häcki-Gross finished as the best Swiss in 17th place. Aita Gasparin ranked 46th, ahead of her sister Elisa 50th and Amy Baserga 51st.
