Original Title: Macau Police Detected Illegal Gambling Cases, Zhou Mou and 11 others were transferred to the Procuratorate

The Judicial Police Department of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government held a special press conference on the afternoon of November 28 to announce the detection of a case involving criminal syndicates, illegal gambling and money laundering crimes. The case detained 11 suspects, including a 47-year-old businessman surnamed Zhou. After preliminary cross-examination, the above-mentioned persons all admitted to setting up relevant gambling platforms overseas and conducting criminal activities of telemarketing, but refused to cooperate in other investigations.

The press conference also showed a large number of criminal devices involved in the crime seized by the police, including computers, servers, and electronic storage devices, as well as more than 3 million patacas in cash seized. The Police Department of Macau stated that it will transfer the above-mentioned persons to the Macau Procuratorate for crimes of criminal syndicate, illegal gambling and money laundering, and will continue to investigate this case in depth and pursue other fugitives.

The case shows that in August 2019, through intelligence collection, the Macau Police Department learned that Macau, headed by a criminal group surnamed Zhou, used the business of operating casino VIP rooms in Macau to set up gambling platforms overseas and solicited mainland residents to conduct illegal networks. In gambling, the group transferred and concealed the illegal property obtained through the casino VIP club account and illegal channels such as underground banks. Therefore, the Police Department of Macau transferred the case to a special case in April 2020 to continue its in-depth investigation. After a comprehensive investigation and based on the right time, it took action in the early morning of November 27, 2021. Huanyi Residential Unit successfully seized 11 suspects in this case. Except for the principal offender, all the others reported as senior executives.
