Borussia Dortmund defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 this Tuesday in the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals (same result as in the first leg for a global score of 2-0) and qualified for the third final in its history in the highest competition European. The German team has not competed for the most coveted trophy in Europe for eleven years.

With a header from a corner by veteran centre-back Mats Hummels (50), the Ruhr team led by Edin Terzic once again frustrated the Parisian hopes and will fight on June 1 at Wembley to win their second ‘Orejona’ against a rival that will emerge from Wednesday’s duel between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich (2-2 at the Allianz Arena).

The celebration of Marco Reus

After finishing the match, Kylian Mbappé lamented while lying on the grass of the Parc des Princes, while the Borussia Dortmund players ran to celebrate with their fans in the stands.

Among the German team’s players, Marco Reus stood out, who a few days ago announced that this will be his last season wearing the Dortmund shirt. The midfielder approached the team’s fans, took a megaphone and started singing with one of the most loyal fans in Europe.

Reus, without a doubt, wants to say goodbye to the club he loves with a Champions League.

What happened to Marco Reus and Borussia Dortmund?

After 12 years defending the yellow and black shirt, and having offers from big clubs in Europe, Reus will leave Signal Iduna Park at the end of the season by mutual agreement with the team.

“Now I know that it will be difficult for me to say goodbye at the end of the season and yet I am happy that there is now clarity and that we can fully focus on the very important final matches that we still have to play,” said the German 34 years old.

“I have spent more than half my life at this club and I have enjoyed every day, although there were also difficult moments. I have been able to play in this beautiful stadium for 12 years. I have experienced many ups and downs, but more ups, I think,” he added.

“I am tremendously proud to have played for this club for so many years. “I’m having a hard time finding the right words,” he said.

Marco Reus represented the Borussia Dortmund shirt like few others. He trained in the club’s youth ranks, but had to go to the humble RW Ahlen to grow in the sport. He made it to the first team and became one of the jewels of German football.

In the 2009-2010 season, Borussia Mönchengladbach signed him for one million euros, and three seasons later, he returned to Borussia Dortmund for 17 million euros. In that team, along with players like Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski, he amazed the world and gave the powerful Bayern Munich a fight in the Bundesliga and the Champions League, under the direction of Jürgen Klopp.

Despite the great offers, he did not follow in the footsteps of his teammates who left Signal Iduna Park for money and other colors. He stayed at Borussia Dortmund to be a legend of the club of his life and his loves.

Despite serious injuries, which kept him away from major events such as the 2014 World Cup, in which Germany was champion, he has made 424 appearances to date with Dortmund and has scored 168 goals and assisted 128 more goals. In 2019 he was elected “German footballer of the year” for the second time. He won two German Cups (2017 and 2021) and three German Super Cups (2014, 2015 and 2020). He is now going for a Champions League against Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.
